The Brief
The redeveloped Heatherwood Hospital has been designed to accommodate up to 168,000 patients annually, doubling the capacity of the previous facility. The architectural design draws inspiration from the woodland setting of the Heatherwood Estate, incorporating engineered timber cladding to the upper façades and generous glazing that provides tree-top views, supporting a calm and restorative healthcare environment.
The Challenge
Deliver a contemporary, sustainable lighting solution that supports patient wellbeing and staff comfort, informed by extensive stakeholder engagement to understand the Trust's operational requirements and vision.
What we delivered
General and emergency lighting strategies were developed across all areas of the hospital at RIBA Stage 3.
RIBA Stage 4 technical design, fully coordinated BIM lighting models, detailed lighting layouts, luminaire schedules, specifications and lighting controls matrix documentation.
Construction-phase support through regular multidisciplinary coordination meetings, addressing on-site queries and resolving design and installation challenges.
Giorgos developed the general and emergency lighting strategies during RIBA Stage 3, led the development of the Stage 4 technical design, and continued to support project delivery through the construction phase.
